Joe Williams struggling early for 49ers

San Francisco 49ers fourth-round rookie Joe Williams has gotten off to a "slow start" at camp, writes CSN Bay Area's Matt Maiocco.

What It Means:

According to Maiocco, Williams remains unfamiliar with the system and he's struggling with ball security. As a result, it appears that Carlos Hyde, at least for now, is again the leader in the clubhouse for starting duties in Week 1. Tim Hightower seems poised for the second-back role.

As of now, numberFire's models project Williams to rush 69.4 times for 273.6 yards and 1.21 touchdowns in his rookie season, while adding 327.4 yards and 1.03 touchdowns through the air on 41.0 catches.
