Colts latest team to give Christine Michael a chance
The Indianapolis Colts signed free agent running back Christine Michael, most recently of the Green Bay Packers.
What It Means:
Michael will join an underwhelming Colts' backfield that is made up of 34-year-old Frank Gore, fellow journeyman Robert Turbin, fourth-round selection Marlon Mack and Josh Ferguson (1.3 yards per carry as a rookie last season). The 26-year-old back could theoretically compete with Turbin and Ferguson for third-back duties, but Michael has failed to provide any reason to believe he'll finally put it all together as he enters his fifth year in the league. He's averaged 4.3 yards per carry on 254 career rushes.
Among the 42 running backs to top 100 carries in 2016, Michael's -0.01 Rushing Net Expected Points (NEP) per attempt was 20th in the group. The Colts finished 11th in the NFL in schedule-adjusted Rushing NEP per play.
