Rob Kelley expected to remain Washington's leading back

Washington running back Rob Kelley is expected to remain the team's lead back, according to CSN Mid-Atlantic's J.P. Finlay.

What It Means:

The team has "been impressed" by Kelley's work this offseason, per Finlay, but that doesn't change the fact that they spent a fourth-round pick on Samaje Perine. Finlay expects Perine to be more of a short-yardage option, but his colleague Rich Tandler believes the rookie's role will grow as the season progresses.

Kelley gained 601 yards on 151 carries (4.0 yards per carry) over his nine starts as a rookie. He averaged just 3.3 yards per carry over the final six games. Among the 42 rushers to get at least 100 carries last year, Kelley's Rushing Net Expected Points per attempt was 25th.
