Spencer Ware still expected to lead Chiefs' backfield
Kansas City Chiefs running back Spencer Ware is still the "likely starter," believes ESPN Chiefs reporter Adam Teicher.
The Chiefs selected Kareem Hunt in the third round, but Teicher says Ware could end up with "the majority of work as the featured back." Considering Ware's struggles last season and the draft capital invested in Hunt, the two backs could move closer to an equal timeshare as the year progresses. For now, it does seem like Hunt is more of a threat to Charcandrick West's role than Ware's.
After averaging 5.2 yards per carry (YPC) through the first six games of 2016, Ware averaged only 3.6 YPC over the final eight contests. Out of the 42 running backs to see 100-plus attempts, his -0.07 Rushing Net Expected Points per attempt was 11th-least.
