Kareem Hunt seizes Chiefs' backfield at 86th overall

The Kansas City Chiefs traded up to select Toledo running back Kareem Hunt with the 86th overall pick in the 2017 NFL draft.

What It Means:

The smallish Hunt (5'11", 216 pounds) graduated as the Rockets’ all-time leading rusher and earned Most Outstanding Player at January’s Senior Bowl. He struggled at the Combine with a sluggish 4.62 40 and lagging 9'11" broad jump, however. While his athleticism doesn’t stand out, his versatile skill set gives reason to believe he'll give Spencer Ware a serious run for the Chiefs' starting job in camp.

Hunt churned out a ridiculous 4,945 rushing yards on 782 carries (6.32 yards per carry), with 44 touchdowns and 73 receptions in his career. Pro Football Focus charted him with the second-most missed tackles forced (98) in the nation in 2016, and he put the ball on the ground just once on 856 college touches.
