Patriots' Malcolm Butler willing to play for Saints
New England Patriots restricted free agent defensive back Malcolm Butler has "very much warmed up to the idea" of playing for the New Orleans Saints, per Michael Giardi of CSN New England.
Butler grew up in Vicksburg, Mississippi and played his college ball at West Alabama, so the idea of playing closer to home in New Orleans is a pull factor for the 27-year-old corner. The Houston Texans are also reportedly interested, but the Saints seem more likely to get a deal done because they can trade back the Patriots' first-round pick that was acquired in the Brandin Cooks trade.
Butler would help upgrade a New Orleans secondary that was third-worst in the NFL last season in schedule-adjusted Defensive Passing Net Expected Points allowed per play.
