Cleveland no longer expected to make play for Washington's Kirk Cousins
The Cleveland Browns "aren't expected" to make a run at Washington franchise-tagged quarterback Kirk Cousins, The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports, but three other teams have in the past 10 days and were "immediately turned down."
This counters an earlier report from ProFootballTalk which claimed there was a "growing belief" Cleveland will try and swing a deal for Cousins. Beat writer Mary Kay Cabot didn't completely shoot down the idea of a trade, but she did point to lofty draft pick compensation and long-term contract concerns as reasons for it being unlikely.
Cousins earned the sixth-most Passing Net Expected Points (NEP) per drop back among the 39 quarterbacks to drop back at least 100 times in 2016. The Browns finished 26th in schedule-adjusted Passing NEP per play.
