New Orleans trades Brandin Cooks to New England

The New England Patriots acquired wide receiver Brandin Cooks and a 2017 fourth-round pick from the New Orleans Saints in exchange for a first and third-round pick in the 2017 draft.

What It Means:

The Saints have been shopping Cooks around the league and managed to strike a deal with the Pats for the 32nd and 103rd picks in the draft, while they will send back the 118th pick. Cooks joins a now stacked receiving crew in New England with Rob Gronkowski, Julian Edelman, Chris Hogan, and Malcolm Mitchell. Receivers Michael Thomas and Willie Snead in New Orleans will see a massive bump in production in 2017 with Cooks out of the way.

Cooks is coming off a 78 catch, 1,173 yard, 8 TD season. He ranked fourth with 0.84 net expected points per target -- out of 41 WRs with 100 targets or more in 2016.
