Jets haven't given up on Geno Smith
The New York Jets have given up on impending free agent quarterback Geno Smith, ESPN's Rich Cimini doesn't believe.
While Cimini agrees that Smith could probably benefit from a change of scenery, he also points out that it wouldn't cost much to retain him. Smith could be agreeable to a one-year, prove-it deal, though the Jets may have reservations following surgery to repair a torn ACL. That could sideline Smith until September or October.
Over the last two years, Smith has dropped back just 62 times, accruing 0.05 Passing Net Expected Points per drop back -- well below the NFL average of 0.11 in that span. Despite that, his Passing Success Rate (the percent of drop backs that gain positive NEP) is an acceptable 48.39 percent.
