Chargers think Melvin Gordon can 'take it to another level'
San Diego Chargers new head coach Anthony Lynn believes he can get more out of running back Melvin Gordon.
"He did a hell of a job from his rookie year to his sophomore year," Lynn said. "And I told him we can take this to another level. We’re going to do some things running-wise that I can think can help him." This is now the second time Lynn has stated his ability to get Gordon to take his game to the next step. He scored 12 touchdowns in 13 games as a sophomore, much to the delight of fantasy owners, but averaged only 3.9 yards per carry. If Lynn can improve Gordon's real-life efficiency, then he could emerge as a top-three fantasy back in 2017.
Among the 42 running backs to top 100 carries this year, Gordon's -0.03 Rushing Net Expected Points (NEP) per attempt were 26th-best. This was just below the -0.02 average for Rushing NEP per attempt this year.
