Doug Martin not in Buccaneers' plans for 2017
Tampa Bay Buccaneers running back Doug Martin is not part of the team's plans for 2017, according to the Tampa Bay Times' Rick Stroud.
"You have to address the running back situation," Stroud said. "I don’t think Martin is going to be part of their plans, short- or long-term, in my opinion. That’s just me." As a result of Martin's failed drug test this year, the guaranteed money on his deal was voided, and the Bucs can get out of it without any financial repercussions. Martin just turned 28 earlier this month and has had one good season since his 2012 rookie year.
Among the 42 running backs with at least 100 rushing attempts this year, Martin's -0.20 Rushing Net Expected Points (NEP) per attempt ranked second-worst. His career-worst Rushing NEP per attempt prior to 2016 was -0.10 during the 2013 season.
