Patriots' Martellus Bennett will need offseason ankle surgery
New England Patriots tight end Martellus Bennett will likely undergo offseason ankle surgery, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports.
Rapoport revealed that Bennett has a cracked bone in his ankle and also has bone chips that will need to be cleaned out. It's pretty evident that Bennett has been playing at well less than 100 percent this season, but he still has yet to miss a game. Hobbled up over the past four contests, Bennett averaged 22.8 yards on 2.0 receptions, along with three touchdowns in that span. Now that New England has a fully healthy arsenal of receivers, there may not be enough passes to go around for him to be productive, especially in his condition.
Our models project Bennett to earn 38 receiving yards and 0.35 touchdowns on 3 catches in the Super Bowl.
