Alex Smith leads toothless Chiefs offensive showing in Divisional Round loss

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Alex Smith completed 20-of-34 passes for 172 yards, one touchdown, and one interception in the 18-16, Divisional Round loss on Sunday.

What It Means:

The Chiefs scored the only two touchdowns of this game, but it still wasn't enough to overcome the Steelers. Smith and the Chiefs got the scoring started with a five-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Albert Wilson out of the wishbone formation on a play-action boot to the left. Predictably, Kansas City's offense went into a shell after the score and couldn't do much of anything before laboring for a fourth-quarter touchdown. On the ensuing two-point conversion, Smith hit tight end Demetrius Harris to tie the game, but it was called back on a hold by left tackle Eric Fisher.

Smith's performance resulted in a mediocre -2.01 Net Expected Points on 34 passing attempts, per numberFire Live.
