Eagles end Wendell Smallwood's (sprained MCL) rookie campaign

Philadelphia Eagles running back Wendell Smallwood has been sent to injured reserve with a sprained MCL, putting an end to his rookie season.

What It Means:

Three weeks wasn't enough time for Smallwood to return. He finishes his first campaign with 77 carries for 312 yards and a score, along with 55 receiving yards on 6 catches. The fifth-round pick should compete for lead duties in Philadelphia's backfield this offseason. With Darren Sproles in the NFL's concussion protocol, Ryan Mathews and Kenjon Barner could be busy against the Baltimore Ravens.

Smallwood earned -1.54 Net Expected Points (NEP) on three rushes in Week 14 prior to going down, per numberFire Live. He entered the contest averaging -0.04 Rushing NEP per play, last among all Eagles' backfield mates this season.
