Derrick Johnson ruptures his Achilles' tendon in Chiefs' victory
Kansas City Chiefs inside linebacker Derrick Johnson has been diagnosed with a ruptured left Achilles' tendon, and is done for the season.
Johnson tore his right Achilles' tendon in 2014 and head coach Andy Reid referred to the injury as a "sad deal." The 34-year-old linebacker was an every-down linebacker for the Chiefs this season, who may now have some problems defending the run up the middle. Johnson likely won't be ready for Week 1 of next year, putting his NFL future up in the air.
Entering Thursday night, Kansas City's defense ranked ninth in Adjusted Defensive Net Expected Points (NEP) allowed per play. Even without Johnson for the majority of the contest, they limited Derek Carr to -13.98 NEP in the victory, per numberFire Live, while Spencer Ware was held to -4.03 Rushing NEP on 20 attempts.
