Packers want to emphasize running game more

Green Bay Packers head coach Mike McCarthy promised to get the running game going while speaking on Monday.

What It Means:

"We’re not going to make a living with Aaron Rodgers running the football," McCarthy said a day after Rodgers led the team in rushing. "We need to get our run game going because we’re not going back to last year. We’re going to run the football, we’re going to play-action pass game." It's an ideal strategy, but the Packers are working with Aaron Ripkowski and Don Jackson as their only healthy bodies in the backfield right now. James Starks (knee) could be close to a return and is a low-upside stash as the expected lead back in Green Bay.

Ripkowski led Green Bay's running backs with 0.89 Rushing Net Expected Points in Week 9, according to numberFire Live.
