Sheldon Rankins (fibula) is officially Saints' I.R.-return player
The New Orleans Saints have officially made defensive tackle Sheldon Rankins (leg, I.R.) their designated player to return.
That means the Saints' other players on injured reserve (Obum Gwacham, Erik Harris, Michael Hoomanawanui, Jamarca Sanford, Damian Swann, P.J. Williams, Kyle Wilson) will be out for the remainder of 2016. Rankins resumed practicing on Wednesday and should return when first eligible in Week 9.
The Saints' defense is 30th in the NFL in schedule-adjusted Defensive Net Expected Points per play.
