Ryan Mathews (ankle) is healthy and remains Eagles' starter

Philadelphia Eagles running back Ryan Mathews (ankle) is healthy and will remain the starter, head coach Doug Pederson said.

What It Means:

Mathews remains sore coming out of the bye, but he's feeling better after dealing with pain in both of his ankles. He played just eight snaps against the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 3, rushing for -5 yards on two carries. Wendell Smallwood earned a longer look with a 17 carries for 79 yards, so we'd expect this to be a three-man committee with Darren Sproles also in the mix.

Smallwood had the 14th best running back performance of the week in Week 3, according to our Net Expected Points (NEP) metric on numberFire Live, and has a higher Rushing NEP per carry than both Ryan Mathews and Darren Sproles through three games.
