Third-round rookie Cody Kessler starting for Browns in Week 3

Cleveland Browns third-round quarterback Cody Kessler will start Week 3 against the Miami Dolphins, reports ESPN's Adam Schefter.

What It Means:

Is it too late to resurrect that jersey with all the names on it? They could use it for this season alone. With Robert Griffin III (shoulder) and Josh McCown (shoulder) both unable to play, the Browns are forced to turn to Kessler, the 93rd overall pick from this year's draft. Per Schefter just four days ago, the rookie was "not close to being ready to play." Well, he's going to have to figure it out on the fly against Miami in Week 3, and likely after that as well, based on word surrounding McCown's status. Fellow rookie Corey Coleman exploded on Sunday and could prove to be somewhat quarterback-proof, but this is a major blow to all Cleveland skill-players.

Coleman caught 5-of-8 targets for 104 yards and a pair of touchdowns in Week 2, finishing with a game-high 14.19 Reception Net Expected Points against the Baltimore Ravens. It will likely be difficult to replicate this type of production with Kessler under center.
