Devonta Freeman

Falcons' Devonta Freeman and Tevin Coleman in hot-hand committee

The Atlanta Falcons will "go with the guy who's hot" at running back this season, offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan said.

What It Means:

"Whoever's rolling with it, you stick with him," said Shanahan. "When they need a break, the other guy comes in. You try to keep them both fresh to see how it pans out at the end of the game." While ESPN reporter Vaughn McClure said he still considers starter Devonta Freeman the "workhorse," Shanahan's words suggest otherwise. Tevin Coleman lost the starting job to Freeman after suffering a rib injury last season, but the team has repeatedly stated their desire to get him more involved in the offense.

For now, our models project Freeman to start and handle the majority of the load, with 91 yards from scrimmage and 0.58 total touchdowns on 18 touches in Week 1.
