Giants sign James Jones to one-year deal

The New York Giants have signed wide receiver James Jones to a one-year deal.

What It Means:

Jones adds wide receiver depth behind Odell Beckham Jr., Victor Cruz, and Rueben Randle. Jones struggled in Oakland last season posting an ineffective 9.1 yards per catch.

Jones ranked outside the top-80, among wide receivers with at least 40 targets, with a 0.47 Reception Net Expected Points per target last season, which is our way of saying that he didn't add many points to the Raiders' expected scoring output. However, he will be making a positive jump from the 30th-ranked team in our schedule-adjusted Passing Net Expected Points metric to the 13th-ranked squad. He will have to fight for a roster spot. He enters New York as the fifth wide receiver on the depth chart.
