General manager confident Eric Berry will be with Chiefs for Week 1
Chiefs general manager John Dorsey said he is confident holdout safety Eric Berry will be back in time for Week 1.
"The agent has said ... at some juncture during this course, he'll show up here," Dorsey stated. "Knowing what a prideful professional he is, I think he will show up at the appropriate time." Dorsey appears to believe Berry will sign his franchise tender and rejoin the team prior to the beginning of the regular season. The 27-year-old remains without a contract, however, as the two sides were unable to come to a long-term agreement prior to the July 15 deadline. If/when Berry signs the tender, it will be a one-year deal, paying him $10.8 million in 2016.
2015's Comeback Player of the Year, Berry had 55 tackles, 10 passes defended and 2 interceptions as he helped lead a Chiefs defense that ranked fifth in the NFL in schedule-adjusted Defensive Net Expected Points per play.
