Dolphins' Tony Lippett losing reps to Chimdi Chekwa

Miami Dolphins cornerback Tony Lippett has been losing first-team reps to backup Chimdi Chekwa.

What It Means:

The Dolphins have been talking up Lippett all offseason but he's slipping in a competition with a defensive back who could barely get on the field for the porous Oakland Raiders' secondary the past four years. The Dolphins' cornerback corps is a major problem.

Miami ranked just 30th in Adjusted Defensive Net Expected Points (NEP) per play in 2015. The Dolphins were a woeful 31st in Adjusted Defensive Passing NEP per play. Our algorithms project Lippett for 24.95 tackles and 1.10 interceptions in very limited time this season; if he earns a starting job, those stats could swell.
