Browns to try Emmanuel Ogbah at defensive end

Cleveland Browns rookie outside linebacker Emmanuel Ogbah will get work at defensive end during training camp, head coach Hue Jackson said.

What It Means:

The Browns are looking to replace defensive end Desmond Bryant, who is out for the year with a torn pectoral muscle. Ogbah played as a 4-3 end in college and was expected to serve as an outside linebacker as a rookie. If he plays as a 3-4 end in the NFL, it will take time to not only refine his technique, but also to change his body for the position. He sports good size at 6-foot-4, 273-pounds with 35 1/2-inch arms.

Prior to his injury news, our algorithms had projected Bryant for 70.91 tackles and 7.85 sacks in 2016. Nominal starter Xavier Cooper will now take on most of that projection, but may lose some time to rookies Carl Nassib or Ogbah. The Browns' 0.05 Adjusted Defensive Rushing Net Expected Points per play in 2015 ranked 28th in the league.
