Chiefs and Eric Berry unlikely to reach long-term deal by deadline
The Kansas City Chiefs are unlikely to extend franchise-tagged safety Eric Berry before the July 15 deadline, NFL Network's Rand Getlin reports.
The Chiefs haven't made much progress with Berry over the last week. It sounds like they're prepared to let him play out this year at his $10.81 million tender. Berry is seeking a deal in the range of Minnesota Vikings safety Harrison Smith's five-year, $51.25 million extension, but might have to wait until next offseason.
Kansas City finished the regular season ranked fifth in Adjusted Defensive Net Expected Points per play. Berry started all 16 games, totaling 61 tackles and two picks.
