Buccaneers could be interested in Dwight Freeney
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers could have interest in free agent edge rusher Dwight Freeney.
Freeney had some of his best years playing in a Tampa-2 scheme as a defensive end. The Bucs don’t need a sub-package rusher after adding second-round rookie Noah Spence, but could find him snaps. Freeney’s market has been quiet since post-draft visits with the Atlanta Falcons and Cincinnati Bengals. The Arizona Cardinals haven’t ruled out bringing him back.
Freeney showed last season he still has gas left in the tank as a situational edge rusher, recording eight sacks and 36 total pressures (sacks, hits and hurries) on 208 snaps. In 2015, the Buccaneers ranked 23rd in the NFL in Adjusted Defensive Net Expected Points per play, with a mark of 0.09.
