Muhammad Wilkerson not expected to report to Jets camp
New York Jets franchise-tagged defensive lineman Muhammad Wilkerson is unlikely to report for the first day of training camp, NJ Advance Media's Darryl Slater believes.
Wilkerson is not under contract until he signs his franchise tender, and could theoretically sit out the entire season without incurring any fines. His tag is worth $15.7 million, however, and Slater thinks Wilkerson will report to camp after he has made his point. The two sides have until July 15 to work out a long-term deal, but that is almost certainly not happening.
Our algorithms project Wilkerson to rack up 60.68 tackles, 13.20 sacks, and 4.00 passes defensed in 2016. The Jets' defense finished 2015 ranked sixth in Adjusted Defensive Net Expected Points per play.
