Four-game suspension for Cowboys' Demarcus Lawrence upheld

The NFL has upheld Dallas Cowboys defensive end Demarcus Lawrence's four-game suspension for violating the league's substance-abuse policy.

What It Means:

The Cowboys were hopeful Lawrence's ban would he halved, but he evidently had an extremely weak appeal case. Dallas will now officially be without each of its starting defensive ends for the first four games of the season, not to mention linebacker Rolando McClain. It will be duct tape and glue until Lawrence and fellow defensive end Randy Gregory return. We wouldn't be surprised if owner Jerry Jones' subordinates were having to physically restrain him from calling troubled free agent Greg Hardy.

The Cowboys ranked 19th in Adjusted Defensive Net Expected Points (NEP) per play last season.
