Chiefs holding open competition for backup quarterback job
Kansas City Chiefs quarterbacks Tyler Bray, Aaron Murray and Kevin Hogan will compete for the backup quarterback job in Kansas City behind starter Alex Smith.
Chase Daniel filled that role for three years before joining Philadelphia Eagles' new head coach Doug Pederson in Philly. Head coach Andy Reid named Bray the second quarterback entering preseason games, but only because Bray has been in the league longest. Murray remains the favorite for the job. Hogan is a fifth-round rookie.
Smith has been very durable for his Kansas City tenure, as Daniel only saw 74 drop backs across the last three seasons for the Chiefs. Kansas City ranked 19th in the league in Adjusted Passing Net Expected Points per play last year.
