Titans waive Zach Mettenberger

The Tennessee Titans waived quarterback Zach Mettenberger.

What It Means:

Tennessee almost certainly attempted to trade the 2014 sixth-rounder during the draft, but they understandably found no takers. Despite the Titans losing all six of his rookie starts, Mettenberger flashed big-play ability and looked like he could develop into a quality backup. He was disastrous in four starts last season, however, and his fate was all but sealed when Tennessee brought in veteran backup Matt Cassel. Mettenberger will get another look somewhere, but his lack of pocket awareness and inability to evade pressure look like fatal flaws.

Among the 46 quarterbacks with at least 100 drop backs in 2015, Mettenberger's -0.24 Passing Net Expected Points (NEP) per drop back ranked 45th. Cassel's -0.14 clip was marginally better, ranking 42nd among these players.
