Seahawks' Rashaad Penny (ankle, leg) to miss 'a number of months'

Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll announced Monday that running back Rashaad Penny will miss 'a number of months' after undergoing surgery for his broken leg and sprained ankle.

What It Means:

Penny simultaneously fractured his fibula and suffered a high ankle sprain in the Seahawks' nail-biting loss to the New Orleans Saints in Week 5, and will undergo what is likely to be season-ending surgery to repair his injuries. The former first-round pick has lived up to the hype he carried with him into the NFL whenever he has been healthy enough to play, but has had to endure a series of unfortunate injuries since entering the league. With Penny sidelined, expect 2022 second-round pick Ken Walker to take over the team's lead back duties going forward.

Penny was the top back in all of fantasy football in the final few weeks of the 2021 season, and more or less picked things up where he left off to open the 2022 season. His 6.1 yards per carry rank third in the league at the running back position, and he currently ranks 11th in total rushing yards with 346 across all positions.
