Texans' Dameon Pierce poised for Week 1 lead role
Houston Texans fourth-round rookie running back Dameon Pierce is "looking more like he could be the lead back" for Week 1 against the Indianapolis Colts, according to Jonathan M Alexander of the Houston Chronicle.
Pierce was held out of the Texans' second preseason game while head coach Lovie Smith said he "wanted to get a better look" at fellow backs Marlon Mack and Rex Burkhead. That seems to indicate that Pierce will open the season as the Texans' starting running back, and he has already emerged as a popular mid-round back to target in drafts.
numberFire's models project Pierce for 10.5 touches and 47.3 yards in Week 1 against the Colts and he has a $5,400 salary on FanDuel. Mack ($5,900) is projected for 6.4 touches and Burkhead ($5,100) is projected for 5.9 touches.
