Antrel Rolle

Antrel Rolle is on the Bears' roster bubble

Chicago Bears safety Antrel Rolle is on the Bears' roster bubble, ESPN reporter Jeff Dickerson believes.

What It Means:

Signed to a three-year, $11.25 million contract last offseason, Rolle played well when on the field in 2015. Unfortunately for Chicago, the 33-year-old managed just seven appearances and ended the season on injured reserve with a sprained MCL. Rolle has been durable his entire career, but it is possible his body is starting to break down. Even so, not a single cent of Rolle's $2.4 million salary is guaranteed, so there is not much risk in seeing what he has left in the tank during training camp. Rolle should stick around at least through the offseason.

Chicago's 0.12 Adjusted Defensive Net Expected Points (NEP) per play allowed in 2015 ranked tied for 30th in the league. They were particularly atrocious defending the pass, ranking 31st in Adjusted Defensive Passing NEP per play. Rolle was on track to accrue 80 or more tackles for the sixth straight season, but had just one pass defended and no interceptions in 2015.
