Buccaneers: Mike Evans was open, ignored by Tom Brady in loss

Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Mike Evans was open during Sunday night's 38-3, Week 9 loss to the New Orleans Saints but Tom Brady didn't target him, according to head coach Bruce Arians.

What It Means:

Evans tied for the team-lead with 6 targets in the ugly loss but Arians apparently thought he should have been targeted more. “He didn’t get targeted. That’s all. Mike was open," Arians said Monday. Evans managed to lead the Buccaneers with his highest yardage total (64) since Week 4 and he drew a pair of targets in the end zone, but it was a quiet evening for the entire offense. Encouragingly, Evans still played over 85.0 percent of the offensive snaps in Antonio Brown's debut, including 17 from the slot. The Buccaneers will look to get back on track versus the Carolina Panthers in Week 10.

Evans scored 8.4 FanDuel points in Week 9 and is averaging 11.4 per game overall (WR30). He leads the Buccaneers with 54 targets but is just fifth in yards per target (8.4). The Panthers are allowing the fifth-fewest FanDuel points per game to the wide receiver position this season but have the No. 19 pass defense in numberFire's advanced team rankings.
