Devonta Freeman (ankle) working on side at Giants practice
New York Giants running back Devonta Freeman (ankle) did not practice Tuesday.
Freeman worked off to the side during position drills as he deals with an ankle injury he suffered in last Thursday's loss to the Philadelphia Eagles. The Giants play on Monday night in Week 8 versus the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, so Freeman will have an additional day to heal ahead of the brutal matchup. Wayne Gallman would likely handle most of the backfield work if Freeman is unavailable. He rushed 10 times for 34 yards and a touchdown last week and added 5 catches for 20 yards on 5 targets.
Freeman was averaging 18.3 opportunities per game as the Giants' lead back before last Thursday's abbreviated outing. He is 52nd and Gallman is 43rd in Rushing Net Expected Points per carry among the 68 backs with at least 25 attempts this season. The Buccaneers have the No. 3 rush defense in numberFire's advanced team rankings.
