Cowboys asking Tony Pollard to 'run receiver routes'

Dallas Cowboys running backs coach Skip Peete told reporters that Tony Pollard has worked 'extremely hard' learning both the running back position and how to 'run receiver routes.'

What It Means:

Pollard was an exciting prospect out of Memphis who profiled as more of a satellite entering the league. He finished his collegiate career with more receiving yards (1,292) than rushing yards (941) while playing behind Darrell Henderson, but only tallied 15 receptions for 107 yards in his rookie season while playing behind Ezekiel Elliott. There's plenty of room for growth in Dallas' prolific offense.

Pollard remains one of the most enticing running back handcuff options for fantasy drafts this year, and could have standalone value if he does manage to run more receiver routes than he did in 2019. He's currently projected to finish the season as numberFire's RB44, but has RB1 upside if Elliott misses any time.
