Bucs' Tyler Johnson sitting out with soft tissue injury

Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times reports that fifth-round rookie receiver Tyler Johnson is dealing with a soft tissue injury.

What It Means:

It's more bad news for Johnson, who had one of the more disappointing pre-draft processes and is now missing time in camp. Johnson was dominant at Minnesota but was strangely not extended an invitation to the NFL Combine. Concerns about his athleticism caused him to drop down draft boards despite a top-notch collegiate resume, and he landed on a crowded Bucs receiver depth chart from there. Missing time will make it that much harder for the rookie to find playing time behind Scotty Miller and Justin Watson.

Our projections have Johnson's steep uphill battle baked in. We project him to see just 18.3 targets in his rookie season and to catch 10.7 of those passes for 115.7 yards and 0.7 touchdowns. He can be safely ignore in redraft leagues and should be viewed as a long-term stash in dynasty leagues.
