Chargers sign Joey Bosa to record-breaking, 5-year, $135 million extension

Los Angeles Chargers defensive lineman Joey Bosa has agreed to terms on a 5-year extension worth $135 million, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

What It Means:

Bosa's extension includes $78 million fully guaranteed at signing, and $102 million guaranteed overall, which is a new NFL record for a defensive player. The third overall pick in the 2016 NFL draft, Bosa has recorded 43 sacks, 43 quarterback hits, and 157 quarterback hurries in his four-year career. In 2019, he graded out as Pro Football Focus' fifth-best defensive end (min 100 snaps), tied with J.J. Watt, and their fourth-best defensive edge in pass rush. His 52 quarterback hurries were the sixth-most at his position last season. Bosa's future is now tied to the Chargers for the next six seasons.

numberFire's models project Bosa for 12.5 sacks, 60.5 tackles, and 2.3 forced fumbles this season. The Chargers D/ST is ranked 24th overall in our preseason rankings.
