Justin Jackson on short leash as Chargers' RB2

Los Angeles Chargers running back Justin Jackson's "leash won't be long" as the team's second back, according to The Athletic's Daniel Popper.

What It Means:

Jackson will be facing stiff competition from fourth-round rookie Joshua Kelley for snaps and touches behind Austin Ekeler. He's only handled one double-digit workload through two seasons and has already missed 12 games due to injuries. That said, Jackson has proven to be effective in limited opportunities. He's averaging 5.5 yards per touch for his career and his 6.9 yards per carry was best in the NFL last season out of 85 backs with at least 25 attempts.

numberFire's models expect Jackson to finish with fewer carries (81.0) than both Ekeler (182.7) and Kelly (89.2). He's projected for 335.3 rushing yards, 65.7 receiving yards, 10.1 receptions (15.2 targets), and 3.9 touchdowns. Jackson is the RB55 in our preseason fantasy rankings.
