Redskins sign J.D. McKissic to two-year contract

The Washington Redskins are signing running back J.D. McKissic to a two-year deal, according to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network.

What It Means:

A former undrafted free agent in 2016, McKissic spent last season on the Detroit Lions, playing all 16 games. A passing-game specialist, McKissic will look to carve out a role for himself in Washington, where former running backs Chris Thompson and Wendell Smallwood are both currently free agents. If Thompson and Smallwood sign elsewhere, they will vacate a combined 71 targets from last season.

McKissic boasts a 76.9% completion rate on 91 career targets. Last season, his pass success rate of 47.06% was second to only Kerryon Johnson (80%) of Lions' running backs with more than 5 targets.
