Magic expect Aaron Gordon to play at both forward positions
Orlando Magic forward Aaron Gordon can play both small forward and power forward, according to general manager Rob Hennigan.
This leads us to believe that Gordon will be starting at small forward for the Magic, while also serving as Serge Ibaka's primary backup at the four. Hennigan singled out Gordon's "defensive range and athleticism," while explaining that the Magic "see Aaron as an extremely important piece to what we're doing." He continued, "it's about his versatility...he can really impact the game in a lot of different ways." While it's been difficult (okay, almost impossible) to figure out what Orlando's rotation is going to look like, there appears to be some relative clarity regarding Gordon's role.
Gordon improved upon his rookie numbers in year two, averaging 9.2 points and 6.5 rebounds with a .509 effective field goal percentage. He logged 23.9 minutes per game and ranked 47th in the league with a 3.4 nERD.
