Cam Newton, QB, Carolina Panthers

"SuperCam" Newton must have finally been exposed to Kryptonite, because this superhuman signal-caller still hasn't fully recovered from a few problematic offseason injuries (ankle surgery, ribs). A late Week 1 inactive, Cam gave way to veteran backup Derek Anderson and served as a glorified cheerleader for the first game of 2014.

With all of his body's pieces jumbled up, should you rely on Newton this week? Not if you can avoid it. Cam still hasn't seen real game action yet on his surgically-repaired ankle, which might mean he stays in the pocket more often and rely on passing; naturally, this will reduce his fantasy upside, as much of his value comes from rushing points (37.9% career). This will be mitigated by the fact that Newton is a competent passer, right? His Passing NEP ranks for his career are 11th, 12th, and 16th, respectively. However, the weird thing about rib injuries is that they limit torso movement, and you need your torso to rotate well in order to throw footballs.

Add in the fact that Newton will be playing possibly the league's best - certainly the league's most vicious - front seven, and he may be a sitting duck when "Donkey Kong Suh" comes a-calling. With all these potential limitations, the best bet is to bench Cam in most leagues if there are reasonable fill-ins.
