Mike Gillislee, RB, New England Patriots

Yahoo Ownership Percentage: 45%

Mike Gillislee peaked in Week 1. For real. There was reason for optimism headed into the season about him since his 2016 season with the Buffalo Bills was remarkable, analytically speaking.

His 0.30 Rushing Net Expected Points (NEP) per rush -- the degree to which a player performed above or below expectation on a per-carry basis based on historical down-and-distance data -- was by far the highest among the 42 running backs with at least 100 carries that season.

His 57.43% Rushing Success Rate -- the percentage of runs contributing positively to NEP -- ranked as the third-best individual performance out of 767 such seasons among running backs with at least 100 carries since 2000.

And, oh yeah, he was going to the New England Patriots to presumably fill the LeGarrette Blount role, making him a goal-line back role for an incredibly efficient offense. So in Week 1 when Gillislee popped off for three touchdowns, things were looking rosy.

But since then, Gillislee's been bad, posting an inefficient -0.11 Rushing NEP per rush on the season, which ranks 20th among the 25 running backs with at least 90 carries. And head coach Bill Bellichick has taken notice, making him a healthy scratch in Week 10.

Without a clear role in the offense and seemingly buried on the depth chart for the time being, it'd be better for owners to drop Gillislee for teammate Rex Burkhead for more reliable production.
