Robbie Ray, P, Arizona Diamondbacks

FanDuel Price: $7,800

Why He Will Go Overlooked:

Robbie Ray's ERA sits at 4.76 on the year, and he is pitching against Bartolo Colon, who boasts the second-lowest implied opponent team total on the slate for his matchup with the Arizona Diamondbacks, which gives Ray a low chance of picking up the win.

Why You Should Use Him:

Over his last nine starts, Ray has compiled a 2-6 record and 5.19 ERA. Nothing to write home about, right? Well, a deeper look at the numbers shows that Ray has been one of the most impressive pitchers over the last couple months.

During that span, Ray's SIERA sits at a pristine 2.84, which is backed by an absurd 12.81 strikeouts per nine innings. Over his last three starts, Ray has put up some truly puzzling numbers, contradicting a 2.12 SIERA with a 7.02 ERA while striking out 16.2 batters per nine innings.

Ray's uncharacteristically high .385 BABIP and equally uncharacteristically low 63.4% strand rate over his last nine starts suggest the lefty has some positive regression headed his way. Even if he again is a victim of bad luck in the run department tonight, he has been an elite enough strikeout artist to be a decent fantasy option at his price, averaging 36.5 FanDuel points over his past 10 starts.

New York ranks just 21st in wOBA against lefties on the season while their 22.2% strikeout rate is the 12th-highest in the league. There are certainly safer options out there tonight, but you will be hard pressed to find someone with the strikeout upside of Ray, making him an optimal tournament play.
