The Dallas Cowboys signed running back Alfred Morris, formerly of the Washington Redskins, to a two-year contract.
What It Means:
Morris was a workhorse his first two years in the league, gaining 2,888 yards with 20 touchdowns on 611 carries (4.73 yards per carry) in Mike Shanahan's zone-run scheme. He struggled to continue that success in Jay Gruden's power-oriented offense, managing a career-low 3.72 yards per carry last year. Morris' career appears to be trending in the wrong direction, but a new scheme and an elite offensive line could certainly help turn his fortunes around. Only 27, Morris is a good reclamation project for the Cowboys and will be a solid post-hype sleeper in fantasy. His primary competition for touches will come from Darren McFadden and Lance Dunbar, assuming Dallas doesn't draft an early-round running back.
Morris racked up -0.06 Total Net Expected Points (NEP) per play, ranking 40th among the 42 running backs with at least 150 total opportunities in 2015.
