Jacob Tamme, TE, Denver Broncos

Julius Thomas looks to be a game-time decision this week after suffering an ankle sprain on the Broncos’ first drive last week against the St. Louis Rams. Some reports don't expect him to play Sunday against the Dolphins.

That opens the door right up for Jacob Tamme. After Thomas went down, Tamme was targeted 10 times by Peyton Manning, catching 4 passes for 31 yards. Tamme only has 10 catches on the year, but figures to see a particularly large uptick in volume this week if Thomas can’t go. The Broncos offense heavily involves the tight end position, especially around the red-zone, which is proven by Thomas’s 12 touchdowns this season.

Yes, Thomas is a unique weapon, but Tamme should have his chances (he does in fact have a positive Reception NEP of 7.44 on the year). The only factor working against Tamme is the Dolphins lethal pass rush, and their ability to cover tight ends well (they give up the fifth least amount of fantasy points to the position).

Look for Manning to get the ball out quickly on Sunday to neutralize Miami’s pass rush. If he’s able to do that and the Broncos can move the football, Tamme should be an excellent value play, especially with Denver playing at home.
