Buffalo Is the Best Team in the AFC East. For Now.

The big AFC East showdown was won by Buffalo on Sunday, and the Bills now hold sole possession of first place in the AFC East.

They’ve done it through good defense and pounding the rock – you didn’t expect EJ Manuel to be the main reason the team is in first, did you?

In all fairness, Manuel actually has started his season off well. After Week 1, he had a 1.86 Passing Net Expected Points (NEP) score, which ranked 17th in the NFL. His per drop back Passing NEP average was 15th best.

After an interception-free Sunday, Manuel’s showing progress after a rookie season that saw him post the second-worst Passing NEP in the entire NFL. If he can continue his pace, and if the Bills can keep playing sound defense despite offseason losses, Buffalo may stay around longer than many thought at the beginning of the season.

But it’s only Week 2 though, and New England looked good on Sunday. Let’s not get too far ahead of ourselves.
