Giants' Joe Panik to miss six weeks after undergoing thumb surgery

San Francisco Giants second baseman Joe Panik (thumb) underwent surgery on Monday and is out for the next six weeks.

What It Means:

Panik tore his ulnar collateral ligament in his left thumb and needed surgery to fix the problem. He will be out until mid-June at the earliest. Kelby Tomlinson and Alen Hanson will fill in at second base during his absence.

Panik hit .267 with 3 homers and 11 runs scored in 100 plate appearances so far this season.
