Rangers release Bartolo Colon to avoid salary guarantee
The Texas Rangers have released starting pitcher Bartolo Colon.
The Rangers released Big Sexy to avoid paying him a guaranteed $1.5 million salary next season. However, the team is reportedly negotiating a number of scenarios with Colon that would keep him on the team, and maybe even have him on the Opening Day roster. There is still a good chance Colon pitches for Texas at some point this season.
Colon logged 143.0 innings in 2017 with multiple teams, finishing with a 7-14 record, 5.14 xFIP, 1.59 WHIP, and 89 strikeouts.
