Matt Harvey unavailable in rest of division series for Mets
New York Mets manager Terry Collins has announced that Matt Harvey will not pitch in relief if the National League Division Series goes to Game 5.
Harvey threw 97 pitches in Game 3 of the series against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Despite lasting just five innings, he struck out seven batters, although he walked two and allowed seven hits. Considering his return from Tommy John surgery this year and his agent's uproar over his innings count, it's no small wonder that the Mets' ace is being shut down unless the team makes it to the National League Championship Series.
Harvey has had a great year in his first season back from surgery, throwing 189 1/3 innings with 188 strikeouts, a 2.71 ERA, and a 1.02 WHIP. He ranks 11th among starting pitchers in nERD for this 2015 campaign.
